Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Ni-B and Ni-B-W Coatings Prepared by Electroless Plating

Ni-B binary coating and Ni-B-W ternary were successfully prepared on titanium alloy (TC4) substrates by electroless plating to improve the hardness wear resistance, followed annealing treatment for better mechanical properties tribological properties. The morphology, composition, microstructure, properties, behaviors of coatings characterized. Both as-plated amorphous, while composition morphology differed from those coating. Additionally, had with a more considerable (13.5 GPa), minor friction coefficient (0.42), lower rate (0.10 × 10?7 cm3/(N·m)). After annealing, both crystalline. In parallel coating, annealed showed larger values because formation hard phases. Moreover, crystalline grain grew as temperature rose 350 °C 650 °C. Accordingly, value, major coefficient, severe under same conditions. Above all, at best performance, an average size 26.3 nm, 15.9 GPa, 0.34, 0.09 cm3/(N·m).
